With the focus of a trained scientist, Katherine Chang Liu begins her mixed-media collages with a word or phrase, a guide she follows on a subtractive voyage through color and form to create paintings that look like "one breath." 

Navigating a path between East and West, art and science, and complexity and simplicity with a balance of grace and assurance, Katherine Chang Liu is something of a paradox; she has worked hard to achieve success as an artist without really having that ambition in mind.
